Uniform Launch: The Newt in Somerset
he Studio 104 team recently had the pleasure of fitting the new bespoke uniforms on site at The Newt in Somerset. Situated at the heart of the historic 850-acre estate and well described as a place of wonderment, Hadspen House is a fine example of picturesque 18th Century architecture.
The core is Georgian, with limestone buildings the colour of burnt honey. Hadspen and the farmyard nestle quietly amongst orchards, lakes, and woodlands. This working Country Estate off-sets heritage elements with contemporary design, styling, and architecture.
Studio 104 have reimagined the “Ivy League” look which we feel perfectly aligns with The Newt in Somerset’s style and surroundings. Our custom uniform design pays homage to this classic style of dress while retaining heritage features which sit back with the property.
The uniform has been designed to focus on three main design tributes.
Ivy Style
An era known for its ‘Classic sensibilities’ our designers have looked at the inception of this style in the early 1900s across college campuses, its evolution, and its prominence today. This preppy style of dress is iconic yet contemporary, aligning perfectly with The Newt in Somerset’s prestigious setting and regal architecture.
Artisan Craftsmanship
In keeping with the idea of a working Country Estate, the uniform designs should also reflect this concept. Therefore, our product development team have sourced iconic British cloth with a heritage look in earthy tones, to sit back with contemporary woven such as graphic stripes. Creating a unique and transformative experience for guests.
Stripe revival
Preppy attire was intrinsically tied with sailing, fencing, lacrosse and rugby, the stripe is a prominent characteristic in distinguishing tradition and social achievement. Our proposal sees a play on the use of the stripe through bold tailoring. Giving a graphic and contemporary edge to the range as well as retaining authenticity.
Our team were so happy to see the staff’s positive reaction to their new uniforms during the fitting session. Each member of staff looked amazing. Check the new uniforms out on The Newt's Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com//thenewtinsomerset/
