The Hottest New Luxury Hotel Jewels of the Caribbean
ven amid the current global challenges, the Caribbean hotel pipeline keeps growing. The highly anticipated openings comprise tiny eco resorts, grand luxury hotels and elevated retreats. They are a medley of styles and sensibilities. From all-inclusive resorts to boutique hideaways, here are the Caribbean openings we’re most excited about.
The Seaborn at Frenchman’s Reef, Autograph Collection, US Virgin Islands
Opening at the end of this year, The Seaborn at Frenchman’s Reef is an eagerly awaited addition to the burgeoning luxury resort line up to the Virgin Islands. Part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, and to be joined by the opening of the adjacent Westin Beach Resort & Spa at Frenchman's Reef, The Seaborn is a crisp, sleek new property with a buzzing beach club, an outdoor island-inspired eatery and more than 18,000 square feet of meetings and event space.
Something Else, Bahamas
David Grutman of Groot Hospitality and pop-star Pharrell are partnering with Atlantis Paradise Island to open a brand-new resort: Somewhere Else. The property, which is adjacent to Atlantis and slated to open in 2024 will feature over 400 guestrooms and suites alongside an array of vibrant, top-tier dining venues, landscaped grounds, an ocean-front beach, multiple pools, recreation areas, luxury amenities and live entertainment.
Grutman comments, “Somewhere Else is going to be a one-of-a-kind resort. Not only will it offer a major extension of the unforgettable and high energy experiences we deliver with Groot Hospitality, but also, a clear focus on nature and restorative elements. We’ll have something for everyone, yet Pharrell and I are making sure Somewhere Else is unlike anywhere else”
Margaritaville Beach Villa Resort, Belize
The Margaritaville brand keeps expanding across the Caribbean, from the company’s all-inclusive alliance with Karisma to a growing number of EP hotels. This Ambergris Caye resort will be part of the latter, a residential-style property with a mix of one, two and three-bedroom units. It also marks the first-ever residential Margaritaville in the Caribbean — meaning you can buy a home there, too.
Zoëtry Curaçao Resort and Spa
Another buzzy new debut for the Dutch Caribbean Island of Curacao, this resort is set at the former Floris Suite Hotel on the outskirts of Willemstad. The property will have a total of 125 rooms including 53 Spazio beachside rooms and suites. All complimented by three restaurants, three bars including a pool bar, a cafe, two pools, a fitness centre, a tennis court and a spa.
“As the Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts brand grows to meet demand for luxury travel experiences in coveted destinations, we are confident in establishing a brand presence in Curacao as part of our development strategy,” said Javier Coll, Group President of Global Business Development. “The brand has expanded globally to Europe, Mexico and across the Caribbean, and now with the addition of Curacao, guests can continue to explore the sophisticated, boutique brand in a popular new destination on the rise.”
Rosewood Le Guanahani, St Barth
The newly-reopened Rosewood Le Guanahani is located along an 18-acre peninsula on Marigot Bay, the so-called “other side” of the island, meaning it’s about a 20-minute drive along zigzagging roads to the capital of Gustavia—home of the super-yachts, St. Tropez–imported cocktail bars, and buzzing mopeds one usually associates with St. Barts. Now under the Rosewood name, it’s fresher, brighter, and completely relaunched — but what hasn’t changed is the fun-loving personality and what is inarguably the best resort beach in all of St Barth.
Hilton Tulum All-Inclusive Resort
Hilton has been rapidly growing its Caribbean all-inclusive portfolio, particularly in the Mexican Caribbean. And its newest resort is in the heart of the hippest destination on the Mexican coast: Tulum. The resort will have nine pools, 13 restaurants and bars, a private each, and a luxury spa, part of a broader complex that will also include a new Conrad-branded resort.
Coulibri Ridge, Dominica
Secluded off-grid luxury; experience the peace of mind of a minimal footprint eco-retreat amid 200 acres of lush wilderness in Dominica. This eco-resort is a major addition to the southwestern coast of Dominica, with jaw-dropping design and the views to match. More importantly, it’s completely green, with solar power and a resounding focus on sustainability. That’s essential in a destination that’s always (rightly) called itself the Nature Island.
