A Brief Insight In Creating a Functional Long-Lasting Uniform Program
hen creating a successful uniform program, some of the main considerations from our wide ranging client base are of course design, colour, lead time and budget.
Studio 104 are experts at creating ranges that excel in all of these elements and more.
However, behind the scenes at Studio 104, the team are constantly working to ensure the highest level of quality to ensure long lasting and highly functional garments are manufactured, and with this, clever pattern work and well considered construction play an integral part, especially when launching a large scale global program.

Uniform construction and manufacturing varies wildly to mainstream retail garments.
The requirements of a uniform are so much higher due to length and repetitiveness of wear and laundering, stresses on the garments when an employee carries out their often very physical job roles, and varying weather conditions, for example for an airline uniform program.
To counter these challenges, here are some examples of how Studio 104 approach garment construction to achieve a fully functional uniform range.
A good pattern is the starting point for any well constructed garment. Here at Studio 104, the team of expert pattern cutters and garment technicians understand the requirements of a uniform garment versus a fashion item, and how body sizes vary globally according to background as well as age.
To guide in understanding body dimensions, Studio 104 use industry leaders, who scan thousands of bodies. This body scanning data is then assessed in detail and translated into our garment patterns and specifications, leading to an unparalleled garment fit, which prolongs the lifespan of a garment.

Once a uniform program has launched, the product needs to be long lasting and highly functional. Construction of the garments therefore needs to reflect how the garment is going to be worn and the stresses it could undergo.
Two ways with regards to trousers where this can be achieved, are by adding re-enforcement stitches called bar tacks to pressure points, for example at pocket openings and at the top and bottom of belt loops. This is a simple yet effective way to prolong the lifespan of a garment and reduce wear and tear to some of the main stress areas on the trouser.
Then from more of a functional perspective, adding a rubber shirt gripper into the waistband will ensure the wearers shirt stays tucked in and does not rise up throughout the day, in often highly physical job roles. The shirt gripper is built into the waistband, is hidden from the outside and is completely comfortable for the wearer.
The above is just a small insight into how Studio 104 tackle the complexities around body sizing and garment construction to ensure a well constructed, long lasting and perfect fitting uniform program.
