We’re loving: Great uniform inspiration emerging from the annual New Designers show

Yesterday we were invited to visit the annual New Designers exhibition at our favorite venue The Business Design Center in Angel.

As a design company we like to keep in touch with innovative ideas entering the market, from textile innovation to furniture design. We work closely with interior design companies during big rennovations (Quaglino’s last year comissioned Russel Sage Studio’s to redesign the iconic Mayfair restaurant) A uniform must compliment the establishment’s surroundings, and vice versa.

New Designers is a great platform for selected students to present their designs to industry, with retailers such as John Lewis awarding their favorite designs.

Our favorite design of the show is this elegant counterweight clock by Nottingham Trent student.

Walking around the show it was very evident that the metal of choice is copper, giving a rose gold effect. This was used in everything from clocks to furniture, sportswear to sportscars.

This is great confirmation of a trend we have already worked into our designs. Our uniform range for JW Steakhouse incorporates their copper cocktail mixers & bar taps into the hardware of the uniforms using copper buttons and rivets.

Our favorite section? Textiles! These stunning knitted fabrics incorporate texture and colour to perfectly balance an interior textile.

A special congratulations is in order for the New Designer of the year Jack Lennie whose motorbike design won the prestigious design of the year award. Don’t ask us how it works but it looks cool!

Looking back on the show it is outstanding how much innovation is happening in the universities across the UK. How exciting to see the next generation of designers inspiring the industry.

If you would like to visit the show, you have one day left, the show closes its doors on Saturday 4th July… we highly recommend it!
