Studio 104 Explores Burberry’s Makers House!

Burberry opened up their exclusive new show space, Makers House, to the public for one week only to celebrate their Spring/Summer 17 Ready-to-Wear collection. The exhibition was described by Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s creative director as “a nod to both the design heritage that is so integral to Burberry’s identity and to some of Britain’s most exciting creators, and the innovation and inspiration behind their work”.

As a team, we couldn’t wait to experience the Burberry exhibition and being amidst all the creative buzz and culture in London means we are able to take every opportunity possible to see fashion exhibitions and shows to add to our never-ending inspiration for our own designer uniform collections.

The exhibition was particularly special as the entire catwalk collection was inspired by, among other things, Virginia Woolf’s novel Orlando. The collection was instantly available in the Regent’s Street store and online, showing that the brand is adapting to the instant access culture of social media.

Burberry’s embellished cavalry jacket inspired by traditional British military uniform.

The collection on display was made up of incredible sharp tailoring, opulent colours, artistic leather work and rich embroidery. The luxury equestrian feel of the collection combined with the raw craft of the details really captured the precision of the Burberry brand. The fact that Burberry had been inspired by British heritage and military uniform really came across in their collection, and we can relate this to our own luxury uniform design as we always look into our client’s heritage.

The workshops, ranging from British calligraphers to sculptors, gave the Studio 104 team a real immersive understanding of the essence Burberry’s collection.

We loved meeting Rosalind Wyatt at Makers House. Here she is in action creating a piece for our designer.

Burberry truly captured their brand at the exhibition by providing a luxury experience both visually and interactively, right down to the incense that was burning as we walked in to the botanical courtyard.

It’s safe to say the Studio 104 team walked away from Makers House brimming with inspiration and a real appreciation of the vibrancy of the British craftsmanship industry.
